HAYWARD, CA (February 18, 2021) – Saturday evening, 58-year-old Valerie Martinez was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Huntwood Avenue.
CHP first responded to the collision around 8:00 p.m., after receiving multiple dispatch calls in the area. According to reports, Martinez was walking south on Huntwood Avenue when a vehicle slowed down and flashed their high beams at her.
Shortly after, a light colored 2005 Ford Explorer sport utility vehicle struck the woman.
Following the impact, the Ford fled toward Whipple Road without rendering aid to Martinez. Investigators say the driver left behind their front license plate holder and debris from the damaged vehicle.
Due to the extent of injuries sustained, paramedics pronounced Martinez dead on scene.
The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim Tuesday night as 58-year-old Valerie Martinez, of Fremont.
Police said the Ford will have front-end damage and possible windshield damage. Authorities later released an image Tuesday taken from surveillance-camera video that captured it leaving the area.
