Peter Finnerty

Peter brings a remarkable and vast breadth of experience as an expert trial attorney for over 22 years in both the criminal and civil arenas. While working in the complex litigation group for an AM LAW 100 firm, he concentrated on multi-billion-dollar class-action defense and learned corporate defense strategy while he cut his teeth on voluminous litigation and discovery.  As a tax specialist working in the Tax Group for another AM LAW 100 firm, he applied his LLM in Taxation Law from Georgetown University Law Center to get fantastic results for his clients.

But it was during his almost 20 year career as the Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) as a Deputy District Attorney where Peter honed his abilities as a fierce litigator, handling over 60 jury and bench trials to verdict in both civil and criminal matters.

Peter’s passion for justice and advocacy for victims was manifest in virtually constant litigation and trial advocacy.  In addition to prosecuting serious and violent crimes, including Armed Robbery, Gang Crimes, Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault, Domestic Violence, Forcible Sexual Assault, Rape and Child Molestation, among others, Peter was the top Sexually Violent Predator (SVP) prosecutor in the Sexual Assault Unit at the OCDA for over 10 years.  He prosecuted dozens of complex SVP cases, protecting the community from the most serious recidivist sexually deviant rapists and child sex predators in the state.  Peter’s accolades as an OCDA prosecutor include the Mothers Against Drunk Driving 2008 Diligent Prosecutor Award and the OCDA Certificate of Excellence for the Sexual Assault Unit in 2016.  He conducted trainings for local and state agencies, including the OCDA Prosecutors Academy, California District Attorneys Association and the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, as well as lectured at area Colleges and Law Schools.
