Cynthia Bernard Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on Curtner Avenue [SAN JOSE, CA]

Esfandiar Nikbakhshtali Arrested in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash at Curtner Avenue and Canoas Gardens Avenue

 
SAN JOSE, CA (May 30, 2020) – A woman who died in a hit-and-run crash last month in San Jose has been identified, authorities said.
 
The crash happened around 11:25 p.m. on May 30, in the area of Curtner Avenue and Canoas Gardens Avenue.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the woman was walking in the westbound lanes when a gold-colored 2000 Dodge Caravan struck her.
 
Responding paramedics rushed the woman to an area hospital, where she died while undergoing treatment.
 
The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman as 64-year-old Cynthia Carmen Bernard.
 
The driver, 76-year old Esfandiar Nikbakhshtali of Santa Clara, fled the scene.
 
A short time later, police located Nikbakhshtali and arrested him. They booked him into the Santa Clara County jail for hit-and-run and DUI charges.
 
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
