One Pronounced Dead after Pedestrian Crash near 5th Street Off-Ramp

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (March 28, 2024) – Early Monday morning, one victim was pronounced dead after a pedestrian accident on Highway 80. 

Dispatchers received calls around 1:35 a.m., on the westbound lanes of the freeway near 5th Street.

Investigators say the driver of a vehicle struck a pedestrian near the intersection and immediately fled the scene. First responders arrived to the scene shortly after and pronounced the pedestrian deceased.

Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity.

Officers say the involved driver fled the scene without rendering aid. Crews closed all the westbound lanes of Highway 80 and diverted traffic onto 5th Street for several hours.

San Francisco police encourage those who witnessed the fatal pedestrian accident on Highway 80 to contact their offices as soon as possible.
