63-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Multi-Car Accident near Hildebrand Avenue
SAN ANTONIO, TX (March 27, 2024) – Mauro Mendoza Santos died late Thursday night, in a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 281.
Authorities responded to the scene around 9:00 p.m., at the 4500 block of southbound Highway 281 near Hildebrand Avenue on March 21st.
Per reports, Santos was helping change a tire on a Black Dodge Dart behind a Red Ford F-350 on the shoulder. It has been reported that the trailer was sticking outside of the white line on the road.
The driver of a Toyota 4Runner swerved in attempt to avoid the vehicle, causing limited visibility near a hill crest. As a result, the Toyota collided with the Ford F-350’s trailer, losing control. The collision caused the Dodge Dart to spin, hitting a nearby Black Mazda 5 and ejecting Santos off the bridge.
Medics arrived and pronounced 63-year-old Mendoza dead at the scene, while emergency responders took the Dodge Dart driver to the hospital, anticipating recovery.
Authorities found no signs of intoxication after assessing the Toyota 4Runner driver. At this time, an active investigation to determine further information on the crash on Hildebrand Avenue is still currently underway.
