75-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Auto Accident near Mapleway Road
YAKIMA COUNTY, WA (March 12, 2024) – Friday afternoon, police responded to a fatal crash that claimed the life of Ronald Young.
The incident took place on US Highway 12 near Mapleway Road around 12:40 p.m., on March 1st.
According to the Washington State Patrol, a Hyundai Tucson driven by 75-year-old Young was stopped at the intersection while a Jeep Wrangler driven by 35-year-old Karina Sandoval was heading west on US Highway 12.
Per reports, Young failed to yield the right-of-way and was struck by Sandoval, causing serious injuries to both drivers. Responding paramedics transported both Sandoval and Young to Multicare Yakima Memorial Hospital. There, Young succumbed to his injuries.
At this time, it was unknown if impairment played a role in the crash and further investigation is underway. Once available, further details will be provided.
