16-Year-Old Driver Pronounced Dead after Two-Vehicle Crash near Baseline Road

PHOENIX, AZ (March 11, 2024) – Saturday afternoon, Talha Abdel-Rahman was fatally injured in a fiery red-light collision on 40th Street.

Authorities responded to the scene just before 3:00 p.m., near Baseline Road on February 24th.

Per reports, Abdel-Rahman was heading west approaching the intersection. For reasons unknown, he failed to yield at a red light and struck another vehicle driven by a woman with an infant passenger.

The impact pushed Abdel-Rahman’s vehicle into a power pole where it caught fire. The Phoenix Fire Department arrived at the scene to extinguish the flames.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced 16-year-old Abdel-Rahman dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, paramedics transported the woman and the infant to a hospital for precaution.

Authorities blocked the intersection during cleanup and preliminary duties. Speed is suspected to be a factor of the crash, and an active investigation is underway.
