Driver Dead, Passenger Hospitalized after Fiery Collision near Las Palomas

RANCHO SANTE FE, CA (March 1, 2023) – Late Sunday night, one victim was killed and another was hurt in a fiery crash on Via De La Valle.

Authorities responded to the scene shortly before 11:34 p.m., just east of Las Palomas on February 19th.

For reasons unknown, the driver of an eastbound vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree. Upon impact, the vehicle caught fire.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced the driver dead at the scene. Although, authorities have not yet released their identity.

Paramedics also took a 19-year-old passenger to UC San Diego Medical Center for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

Both directions of the roadway were temporarily shut down to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties before it was later reopened on Monday at 1:00 a.m.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation and anyone with information can contact the CHP’s Oceanside Area Office at 760-643-3400. Police will release additional information as it becomes available.
