Stolen Vehicle Chase Ends in Fatal Pedestrian Collision along South Central Avenue

LOS ANGELES, CA (June 21, 2022) – Authorities arrested a 42-year-old woman after a fatal pedestrian crash on South Central Avenue.

The incident started around 12:30 a.m., in the southbound lanes of Central Avenue.

As per reports, officers became involved in a chase with a woman who reportedly stole a 1987 Toyota Avalon.

However, the suspect kept driving until they hit a pedestrian allegedly crossing the street near the 7100 block of South Central Avenue. The driver then veered off the road and collided with three parked cars near 71st Street.

Officers responding to the scene located the pedestrian with serious injuries from being dragged for more than 20 yards.

Furthermore, police pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. At the time, authorities only described the victim as a man in his 20s.

Meanwhile the suspect driver, a 42-year-old woman, sustained some injuries in the crash and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Officials scheduled her arrest after her release from the hospital.

Moreover, officials temporarily closed the area to allow for investigations. LAPD will release additional information once available.
