US Navy Serviceman Killed in Two-Vehicle Collision near Beaumont Avenue
BEAUMONT, CA (April 7, 2022) – 31-year-old Jaquane Carter was killed Friday afternoon, in a fatal rear-end semi-truck crash on Interstate 10.
The accident occurred around 12:40 p.m., along the westbound lanes of the freeway near Beaumont Avenue
According to California Highway Patrol, the driver of a 2015 Kia failed to brake in time for stopped traffic ahead. As a result, Carter rear-ended a 2019 Freightliner that was towing a 53-foot semi-trailer on the No. 4 lane.
First responders located the Kia driver with blunt force head trauma. Due to the extent of his condition, he later succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Police then identified the deceased man as Carter from Burgaw, North Carolina.
California Highway Patrol officers also revealed that Carter was stationed at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms.
Crews temporarily closed the surrounding area for several hours as officials cleared the wreckage. Authorities do not currently have further details about the collision. However, an active investigation remains ongoing.
