71-Year-Old Pedestrian Fatally Struck in Hit-and-Run near Via Mariposa

MURRIETA, CA (March 29, 2022) – Wednesday morning, Gloria Henry was pronounced dead after a hit-and-run crash on Clinton Keith Road.

According to Murrieta Police, the crash occurred around 8:06 a.m., about 400 feet east of Via Mariposa.

Police found that 71-year-old Henry was walking along the sidewalk when a full-sized pickup truck in the westbound lanes struck her. The driver, 57-year-old Rodney Wayne Phillips, fled the scene immediately but was later arrested.

Responders took Murrieta to Wildomar’s Inland Valley Medical Center, where medics pronounced her deceased about an hour later.

Meanwhile, crews charged the suspect with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and hit-and-run resulting in death.

The crash led to a complete closure of all westbound lanes on Clinton Keith Road from Toulon Drive to California Oaks Road for several hours as police investigated. At this time, an investigation is ongoing.
