Four Dead after Fatal Collision near Highway 33

FRESNO, CA (March 8, 2022) – Wednesday, Lute Fekitoa, Naomi Cook, Adimada Fekitoa, and Keola James Cook were killed in a crash on I-5.

Emergency crews responded to the scene around 9:30 a.m., just north of Highway 33 after receiving multiple dispatch calls in the area.

The incident took place when the driver of southbound Chrysler Aspen SUV drifted into the west shoulder for reasons unknown. As a result, the Chrysler slammed into the back of an 18-wheeler semi-truck.

Upon impact, multiple passengers were ejected from the SUV onto the road. First responders located the Chrysler stuck underneath the big-rig with severe damage.

The California Highway Patrol eventually declared Lute Fekitoa, Naomi Cook, Adimada Fekitoa, and Keola James Cook deceased.

Meanwhile, the 52-year-old driver of the Chrysler, a 37-year-old man, and a 12-year-old girl suffered from major injuries. They remained at Community Regional Medical Center.

Fresno County officials claimed that both families are from Washington.

Additionally, authorities closed off the lanes for about six hours while they diverted traffic.
