Nicholas Parker and James Kirkman Hurt in DUI Fire-Truck Crash on Road 36 [Madera, CA]

Firefighters Injured in DUI Collision on Avenue 13; Daniel Higgins Arrested

MADERA, CA (February 3, 2022) – Tuesday night, Nicholas Parker and James Kirkman were injured in a DUI crash on Road 36.

The collision occurred around 9:52 p.m., on Road 36 and Avenue 13. Reports indicate that the incident was between a 1995 Buick LeSabre and a 2016 Spartan Cal Fire Truck.

Authorities later identified the Buick driver as 57-year-old Daniel P. Higgins. He was reportedly heading east and failed to stop at the posted stop sign at the intersection.

As a result, Higgins struck the passing fire truck, causing the truck to tip over before coming to rest on the driver’s side. Officers say the fire-truck did not have a stop sign from their position on the intersection at the time.

Following preliminary investigations, crews determined that Higgins was under the influence of alcohol when he struck the firefighters. Paramedics eventually transported him to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries.

Furthermore, crews also transported the fire truck driver, identified as 34-year-old Parker, of Madera to a hospital with minor injuries. The second injured firefighter, 40-year-old Kirkman sustained moderate wounds.

At this time, Madera County Officials are still currently conducting an active investigation into the accident.
