1 Dies, 2 Injured in Semi-Truck Collision near Jose Ramos Court
BAKERSFIELD, CA (November 30, 2021) – Friday, a man was killed and a woman and child were hurt in a big-rig accident on South Union Avenue.
Authorities said the collision occurred just before 8:50 a.m., near Jose Ramos Court. Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after.
With limited visibility due to fog, the driver of a southbound SUV entered eastbound traffic. As a result, the vehicle traveled directly into the path of an oncoming big-rig heading east.
Per reports, the SUV driver struck the semi-truck’s left side at speeds over 60 miles per hour. Authorities located the SUV partially wedged underneath the semi-truck upon arrival.
One man was pronounced dead by medics on scene. Although, authorities have not yet identified him or released his place of residency.
Responders also took one woman and young girl whose car seat was not secure, to Kern Medical for treatment of major injuries.
No information was available regarding the big-rig truck and its driver.
All lanes of the South Union Avenue were closed for four hours for cleanup. Authorities said alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a factor.
