2 Killed in Fatal DUI Accident near Camino Cascada in Goleta
GOLETA, CA (November 3, 2021) – A DUI accident on Cathedral Oaks Road left Gilberto Arteaga-Gutierrez and Silvia Velasco dead Tuesday night.
The crash took place around 7:30 p.m., on Cathedral Oaks Road west of Camino Cascada. Dispatchers responded to the scene shortly after.
According to authorities, Andrew Raymond Burgher was driving a 2016 Toyota 4-Runner at a high speed rate. Eventually, he struck the rear of an eastbound 2002 Ford Mustang, driven by Gutierrez.
As a result of the impact, the Ford rolled over and collided with two parked automobiles on the south curb of Cathedral Oaks.
Furthermore, crews say Burgher was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. He was later taken to Cottage Hospital for treatment.
Upon his release from the hospital, authorities arrested Burgher. He currently faces murder and DUI charges at the Santa Barbara County Jail. The bail amount was set at $2 million.
Additionally, authorities discovered a tiny puppy inside the Toyota. Officers sent the puppy to Santa Barbara County Animal Services for shelter.
Meanwhile, the crash is still under active investigation at this time.
