Matthew Kohatsu Struck and Killed by Train near Dillon Road in Indio

INDIO, CA (July 6, 2021) – Thursday morning, 23-year-old Matthew Kohatsu was killed in a fatal train accident on Avenue 48 and Dillon Road.

The accident occurred on the railroad tracks near the intersection of Avenue 48 and Dillon Road around 6:35 a.m.

According to police, the pedestrian was struck as he crossed the train tracks. However, investigators are unsure as to why he was walking on the tracks at the time.

Despite life-saving measures, Matthew Kohatsu died at the scene.

At this point, the Union Pacific Police Department, the rail incident management organization, is now conducting an active investigation.
