Officer Jeremy Brinton Fatally Struck by Vehicle on I-19 [Nogales, AZ]

Off-Duty Officer Killed by Vehicle While Helping in Lane Closure near Mariposa Road

NOGALES, AZ (June 1, 2021) – Thursday night, May 27, 40-year-old Jeremy Brinton, an off-duty officer, was fatally struck on Interstate-19.

At around 8:15 p.m., Brinton was getting out of his car to assist with a lane restriction on northbound I-19 at Mariposa Road. Shortly after, he was then struck by a car.

Brinton was outside of his marked patrol car and was working in the construction zone at the time of the crash. He was taken to a Tucson hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead.

According to reports, two occupants were inside the vehicle that struck Brinton. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the authorities.

In addition, Brinton was airlifted to Banner University Medical Trauma Center in Tucson. There, he was later pronounced dead.

At this time, authorities are still currently investigating the accident. Once available, more information will be released.
