Victor Barajas and Miguel Bautista Fatally Injured in Mecca All-Terrain Vehicle Accident
MECCA, CA (November 29, 2019) – Two teens riding on an ATV identified as 19-year-old Victor Barajas and 17-year-old Miguel Bautista died on Tuesday, November 26.
According to officials, Barajas and Miguel rode south on a 2000 Polaris Predator 500 all-terrain vehicle on Grant Street. At the same time, a 2005 Ford F150 approached them moving west on 66th Avenue.
The ATV, driven by Barajas, didn’t stop and continued into the intersection, California Highway Patrol spokeswoman Jackie Quintero said. The Ford, driven by Jorge Gonzalez, 47, of Mecca, crashed into the Polaris. The impact ejected the two teens from the ATV.
Both riders succumbed to their injuries at the scene, according to Quintero. They did not wear any protective gear, she added.
Gonzalez was not hurt from the collision.
Officers believed that drugs and alcohol did not appear to play a factor in the incident.
