Sydney Bettencourt Fatally Struck in Livermore Traffic Accident on First Street
LIVERMORE, CA (November 29, 2019) — A 78-year-old Livermore woman identified as Sydney Gay Bettencourt died in a traffic accident on Friday, November 22.
The collision took place on First Street at Larch Lane at around 5:30 p.m.
According to reports, Bettencourt drove southbound on First Street and crashed with and onto the center median. She was the only occupant in the vehicle, and no other vehicles were involved.
She then went out of her car and walked to a sidewalk. But just a short time later, for an undetermined reason, Bettencourt walked back toward her crashed vehicle. Then a northbound motorist struck her. She was not in a crosswalk, according to Livermore police Sgt. Steven Goard.
The adult male driver from Livermore cooperated with the authorities. Officials have ruled out speed, drugs, and alcohol as factors, Goard said.
