26-Year-Old Driver Dies after Fiery Crash on 101 Freeway near De Soto Avenue
WOODLAND HILLS, CA (November 21, 2019) – A woman died in a fiery crash on 101 Freeway, Thursday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 5:00 AM. Due to unknown reasons, a 2019 Toyota 86 sedan lost control in the No. 4 lane. Then, it crashed into the center divider and came to rest near De Soto Avenue.
The Toyota driver, described as a 26-year-old woman, exited her vehicle and stood on the No. 1 lane. There, a 2001 Nissan Frontier pickup struck her and the Toyota. The impact of the collision caused one of the vehicles to erupt in flames.
Emergency responders pronounced the woman dead at the scene. Authorities withheld her identity, pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, the Nissan driver, identified as Rufino Batres Moran, suffered minor injuries and complained of back pain.
CHP officials continue to investigate the cause of the fatal crash. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
