Rider Dies After Motorcycle Collision with Big Rig on 15 Freeway near Rancho Cucamonga
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA (February 11, 2020) — A motorcyclist died after a collision with a big rig on the 15 Freeway near Rancho Cucamonga late Monday.
The crash happened in the southbound lanes near 4th Street at about 11:34 p.m. According to the California Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist went underneath the big rig. The latter then swerved and crashed.
The rider of the motorcycle died in the incident, while the driver of the semi was expected to be okay.
A video from the scene showed the cab of the big rig catching fire. It took at least three fire engines to put out the flames. The crash also caused fuel to go into storm drains.
As to why the motorcyclist crashed with the big rig was unknown. Further investigation was underway.
Meantime, the officials closed three lanes of the freeway until about 4 a.m. on Tuesday.
