1 Hospitalized after Broadside Crash on Highway 101 near Cat Canyon Road
ORCUTT, CA (November 30, 2019) – A man suffered injuries in a broadside crash on Highway 101, Saturday evening.
According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, the incident happened at about 6:00 PM. Due to unknown circumstances, a sedan slammed into the side of another sedan at the intersection. The impact of the collision sent both vehicles to the center divider.
Firefighters requested two American Medical Response ambulances along with the CalStar medical helicopter. They initially rushed one male patient to Santa Maria Public Airport for transportation to a Santa Barbara hospital. However, they later diverted to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria due to his condition.
Emergency responders also transported another victim to a local hospital with moderate injuries.
California Highway Patrol officers continue to investigate the cause of the collision. In addition, they noted that roads were slick in the area due to the rain. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
