Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash on Highway 140 near El Portal
EL PORTAL, CA (December 03, 2019) — A man died in a solo vehicle crash on Highway 140 near Yosemite National Park Sunday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was driving a 1991 Chevy SUV on the highway near Crane Creek Road when he lost control of the vehicle.
The SUV veered off the roadway and then went down a steep embankment. The force of the crash ejected the victim from the vehicle. The SUV ended up on its roof partially submerged in the Merced River.
The man died at the scene. The investigators said the roadway was wet at the time of the crash. Whether the man was wearing a seatbelt was not immediately known. It was also undetermined whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the incident. However, further investigation is underway.
