Man Fatally Ejected in El Portal Car Crash on Highway 140
EL PORTAL, CA (December 4, 2019) – A fatal car crash was reported on Highway 140 near Yosemite National Park on Sunday, December 1.
According to officers, a man drove a 1991 Chevy SUV on Highway 140 near Crane Creek Road. Then he lost control of the vehicle.
The man’s SUV went off the roadway and then went down a steep embankment. The impact of the incident ejected the victim from the vehicle. The SUV came to a stop on its roof, partially submerged in the Merced River.
Yosemite National Park employees and Mariposa County Search and Rescue team rushed to the crash. They pronounced the man dead at the scene.
CHP stated that it’s not yet determined at this time if drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.
Officers said that the roadway was wet at the time of the collision. They have not yet determined if the man wore a seatbelt during the collision.
