Driver Killed in High-Speed Crash on 780 Freeway near Glen Cove Exit
VALLEJO, CA (February 12, 2020) – A man lost his life in a high-speed crash on 780 Freeway, Wednesday afternoon.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 1:00 PM. A silver Honda Civic was traveling at a high speed before it parked and hit several garbage cans. Then, the driver exited the vehicle and checked his phone before speeding off in his car.
A short time later, the vehicle went airborne on westbound 780 Freeway and hit a tree near the Glen Cove exit. The vehicle then came to rest down an embankment.
Emergency responders pronounced the driver dead at the scene. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
CHP officers reported that the driver was a suspect in a crime spree that began earlier in Vallejo. Officials continue to investigate the fatal crash.
