29-Year-Old Luis Osborne Identified as Fleeing Driver Killed in La Mesa Police Chase
LA MESA, CA (December 2, 2019) – Authorities identified 29-year-old Luis Osborne of San Diego as the driver killed while fleeing patrol officers, early Monday morning.
According to the La Mesa Police Department, the incident happened at about 12:50 AM. Dispatchers received a call reporting a fight inside an apartment complex in Parkway Drive. In addition, witnesses reported that a man in a red Nissan attempted to flee the area.
Officers responded to the scene, spotted the fleeing Nissan driver, and attempted to pull Osborne over. However, he failed to yield and continued westbound at a high rate of speed. Then, the vehicle lost control and slammed into a tree near Maryland Avenue.
Emergency responders pronounced Osborne dead at the scene.
La Mesa police are still investigating the reported fight at the apartment complex and its connection with Osborne. In addition, investigators noted that they found multiple open alcoholic beverage containers in and around the vehicle. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
