Ericka Avila Killed, Two Injured in North Las Vegas Wrong-Way Crash
NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (November 18, 2019) – A driver identified as 27-year-old Ericka Avila died in a wrong-way crash on 15 Freeway on Thursday, November 14.
According to Nevada Highway Patrol trooper Jason Buratczuk, at around 3:30 a.m., they received reports of the accident on 15 Freeway. Avila, driving a dark-colored possible Volkswagen, traveled the wrong way on northbound 15 Freeway between Lake Mead Boulevard and Cheyenne Avenue.
Avila nearly struck a vehicle head-on, Buratczuk stated. That driver avoided the crash by driving their car into the center median barrier. After that, she continued and collided head-on into a small white SUV.
Avila’s vehicle overturned and then smashed into the center median barrier, killing her.
The SUV was then struck from behind by another vehicle.
Paramedics transported two people in the SUV to University Medical Center with minor injuries.
The motorist in the other vehicle was not hurt.
Officials believe that impairment may have contributed to the incident.
The collision snarled traffic from Lake Mead back to the Spaghetti Bowl for several hours. The freeway reopened shortly before 9 a.m.
In light of this heavy news, our firm would like to express our sympathies to the family and friends of Ericka Avila.
