Eric Ramirez Aguilar Arrested after Deadly Pedestrian Hit-and-Run in Goleta

 
GOLETA, CA (February 11, 2020) — The authorities arrested 39-year-old Eric Ramirez Aguilar of Goleta following a deadly hit-and-run crash Sunday night.
 
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department has identified the victims as Mary Jane Becerra Corral and Adolfo Corral. Both are 44 years old and from Goleta.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at around 5:15 p.m. on Cathedral Oaks Road. The area is east of Ellwood Ridge Road.
 
The investigators said it appeared that the Corrals were walking their dog on the bike path on the north side of Cathedral Oaks Road when they were hit by a blue Nissan 370Z Roadster convertible. The said the vehicle came to a stop against a fence on the north side of the bike path.
 
One of the victims died at the scene. The second one died at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. County Animal Services took the dog and later turned it over to family members.
 
Meantime, the officers arrested Eric Mauricio Ramirez Aguilar. Aguilar was a passenger in the vehicle deputies apprehended at about 8:30 p.m. The suspect, who reportedly fled on foot, was located with the help of two K9 teams.
 
The officers booked Aguilar into the County Jail on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated causing injury and hit and run causing death or injury. Added to that, he also faces charges of fleeing the scene after committing manslaughter and driving while intoxicated, with an enhancement for causing the deaths of more than one person.
 
Aguilar remained in custody on Monday. His bail was set at $100,000. On the other hand, the officials said the driver was not involved in the crash. They released the driver at the scene.
 
Mary Jane was a computer specialist for the Goleta Union School District. Adolfo worked as the equity, diversity, and cultural competency coordinator at Santa Barbara City College.
