Emilio Perez Critically Hurt in Los Angeles Hit-and-Run Crash on Olympic Boulevard
LOS ANGELES, CA (November 25, 2019) – A pedestrian identified as Emilio Perez suffered critical injuries after a hit-and-run crash on Thursday, November 21.
Los Angeles Police Department officials said that a vehicle struck Perez while he walked northbound in the area of Olympic Boulevard and Lake Street at around 10:45 p.m.
A surveillance video showed that Perez crossed in an unmarked crosswalk when a vehicle speeding across the street struck him. However, the victim appeared to have seen the vehicle because he tried to move back to the sidewalk.
Police said that the impact ejected the man at about 50 feet. After that, paramedics transported him to the hospital in critical condition.
According to LAPD Detective Moses Castillo, they discovered a white Tesla found in the 1800 block of South Saint Andrews Place in Harvard Heights. It is the vehicle believed to be involved in the hit-and-run. In addition, video from the scene showed the vehicle sustained major damage to its windshield and the hood.
Officers have not released a description of the driver. Castillo urged the driver to turn himself or herself into the authorities.
The surveillance video showed a woman covering the parked, damaged Tesla with a car cover the next day, police stated.
They believe that 34-year-old Perez was homeless. In addition, he carried a Bible and officers found a necklace with the cross at the scene.
