Deputy Dakota Palanca in Critical Condition after DUI Crash in Paramount
PARAMOUNT, CA (November 25, 2019) – Authorities identified 25-year-old Dakota Palanca as the deputy injured in a DUI crash on Alondra Boulevard, Monday evening.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the incident happened at about 5:40 PM. The deputy responded to an unrelated call for service about a man behaving erratically near Downey Avenue.
Before the deputy could even exit her vehicle, the suspect ran right into her window and started assaulting her. A short time later, the deputy managed to get out of her vehicle as the suspect ran toward the intersection. There, the deputy started to chase the suspect on foot.
As she was running across the intersection, a Chevrolet Suburban hit her. Deputy Palanca sustained major injuries and was in critical condition at St. Francis Medical Center Monday night.
Other deputies took the original suspect into custody and booked him for assault with a deadly weapon against a peace officer. Meanwhile, the Suburban driver was also arrested for felony DUI.
