9-Year-Old Boy Fatally Struck in Pedestrian Collision near Loop 101 

CHANDLER, AZ (November 17, 2023) – Saturday morning, 9-year-old Ilai Petersen was fatally struck in a pedestrian accident on Ray Road.

The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m., near Loop 101.

Investigators say two vehicles collided in the area as one of them was making a left-hand turn. Upon impact, one of the vehicles jumped onto the sidewalk and struck a man and a boy who were waiting to cross the street.

Paramedics arrived and transported 9-year-old Petersen to a nearby hospital for further treatment, where he later died. The man, identified as the boy’s father, also sustained injuries from the crash.

At this time, an active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway. Once available, more details will be provided.
