65-Year-Old Pedestrian Fatally Struck in Deadly Collision near Valencia Road

TUCSON, AZ (November 15, 2023) – Michael Mena was killed and Jesus Cesena was arrested after a hit-and-run crash, late Sunday evening.

Authorities responded to the scene on South 12th Avenue around 10:00 p.m., near Valencia Road on November 5th.

Investigators say Jesus Enrique Camacho Cesena was driving a black Dodge Ram at about 70 mph with a female passenger. For reasons unknown, Cesena then struck Mena as he was crossing South 12th Avenue with a companion.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medical personnel later pronounced 65-year-old Mena deceased.

Following preliminary duties, officers arrested 18-year-old Cesena for felony hit-and-run charges resulting in serious injury or death. Police booked him into the Pima County Jail where he was later released.

Crews also say Cesena admitted to hitting Mena, who was jaywalking at that time. Cesena says that he panicked and ran away. No other details were added at this time, and further investigation is currently underway.
