Two-Vehicle Collision near Sherwood Avenue left 23-Year-Old Bakersfield Woman Dead
BAKERSFIELD, CA (September 15, 2023) – Early Sunday morning, Andrea Marie Fanning was declared dead in a rear-end collision on Highway 99.
The fatal crash happened around 5:17 a.m. along the northbound lanes of Highway 99, just south of Sherwood Avenue.
Based on the initial investigation, a northbound 2014 Chevrolet stopped in the No. 2 lane for unknown reasons, without any lights on.
Subsequently, the 2019 GMC traveling in the same direction failed to see the stalled Chevrolet, causing both vehicles to collide.
The impact of the crash sent both vehicles off the roadway and into the dirt shoulder.
Unfortunately, the first responders declared the Chevrolet driver dead at the scene. Investigators determined that the female driver was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the incident.
It was unclear if the GMC driver sustained injuries from the crash.
Later, the Kern County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased driver as 23-year-old Andrea Marie Fanning for Bakersfield.
