Two Drivers Pronounced Dead after Head-On Accident near Mile Post 301

SEDONA, AZ (September 14, 2023) – Early Sunday morning, two people were killed in a head-on collision on State Route 179.

The incident happened just before 12:30 a.m., near milepost 301 on September 3rd.

Officers say the driver of a northbound vehicle crossed over the center line and struck a southbound vehicle head-on. Due to the impact of the collision, medics pronounced both drivers dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, one passenger from inside the southbound car suffered minor injuries. Responding paramedics transported the injured occupant to Verde Valley Medical Center in Cottonwood for further treatment.

Following preliminary investigations, police say the driver of one of the vehicles was not wearing a seat belt at the time.

Meanwhile, officers suspect that impairment was a factor. At this time, an active investigation to determine further information about the fatal head-on collision on State Route 179 is still currently underway.
