Jesus Juan Injured in Two-Car Collision on U.S. 287
CHILDRESS, TX (September 1, 2023) – Thursday afternoon, a car crash on US 287 claimed the lives of Frances Woodard and Mary Watts.
The fatal collision happened shortly before 1:10 p.m. on US 287.
According to reports, 85-year-old Frances Woodard and 84-year-old Mary Watts were in a 2004 Toyota Tundra at a stop sign facing west on the southbound side of US 287, roughly seven miles northwest of Childress. The Toyota attempted to merge into the northbound lanes of US 287, but traveled into the path of a 2008 Dodge Ram 3500, driven by 64-year-old Jesus Juan.
Juan attempted to avoid the Toyota but was unable to stop in time. The Ram collided with the Toyota’s driver’s side door. The impact of the collision left the two passengers of the Toyota with serious injuries.
Emergency crews at the site of the accident pronounced Frances Woodward, of Childress, dead at the scene. Meanwhile, paramedics airlifted Mary Watts, of Childress, to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital. She later succumbed to her injuries.
Paramedics also transported Jesus Juan, of Katy, to Childress Regional Hospital, for treatment of minor injuries.
