Female Passenger Killed in Dump-Truck Collision near US-50
SACRAMENTO, CA (August 25, 2023) – Monday afternoon, one woman was killed in a rear-end crash on Highway 99.
Officers responded to the scene around 2:21 p.m., on the northbound lanes of the freeway near US 50.
Per reports, the driver of a Toyota sedan rear-ended a Peterbilt dump-truck in the No. 2 lane. Investigators say the dump-truck started slowing down while traveling north, but the sedan driver failed to stop on time.
Medics arrived and transported the male driver of the Toyota to a hospital for treatment of major injuries. However, his female passenger sustained fatal injuries and died at the hospital.
Paramedics also rushed children ages 6 months and 1-year-old from inside the Toyota to a hospital as a precaution. It was unclear if the dump truck driver was injured.
Following preliminary duties, California Highway Patrol ruled out intoxication as a factor in the rear-end crash. Once available, further details will be provided.
