Pilot and Passenger Pronounced Dead after Single-Engine Plane Crash in Van Nuys
VAN NUYS, CA (August 3, 2023) – Wednesday morning, two people lost their lives in a plane crash at the Van Nuys Airport.
The incident happened on August 2nd, at around 10:30 a.m., near the 16300 block of Waterman Drive.
According to reports, a flight instructor and a student were in the plane when the pilot contacted the tower and told them the plane was experiencing power loss. The pilot attempted a landing but lost control and the plane crashed nose-first into the tarmac, before bursting into flames.
Before the crash, the pilot was able to communicate to the tower that the plane was about to crash. The tower contacted emergency crews and they were able to arrive very shortly after.
Firefighters put out the flames quickly. However, the impact of the collision caused the two occupants to sustain fatal injuries. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
