20-Year-Old Female Driver Dies after Deadly Vehicle Collision near Glendale Avenue

PHOENIX, AZ (May 19, 2023) – Sunday morning, Essence Burnes was pronounced dead following a two-vehicle collision.

On May 14th, just before 6:30 a.m., officers were dispatched near 19th and Glendale Avenues involving a crash between two vehicles.

According to the police, 20-year-old Burnes was southbound on 19th Avenue when she was struck by another vehicle heading west on Glendale Avenue.

Furthermore, the collision resulted in Burnes and her passenger suffering minor to serious injuries.

Consequently, they were transported to the hospital where Burnes later succumbed to her injuries and died.

Meanwhile, the police have yet to determine who had the right of way at that time and who ran over a red light.

Both directions of the road were briefly shut down to allow for cleanup. Also, impairment is not suspected by the involved driver. Further investigations are underway.
