15-Year-Old Boy Dead, 80-Year-Old Man Injured in DUI Collision on Irene Street
BAKERSFIELD, CA (February 8, 2023) – Saturday, Jaime Perez was killed and Timothy Leal was arrested after a DUI accident on Alta Vista Drive.
The incident happened around 7:21 a.m., at the intersection of Irene Street and Alta Vista Drive on February 4th.
Per reports, Donald Olsson was driving a truck south on Alta Vista Drive when he was struck by a stolen 2018 Kia Optima that ran through a stop sign. Upon impact, Olsson’s truck rolled over and came to a stop against a nearby residence.
Paramedics arrived and rushed 80-year-old Olsson, of Bakersfield to Kern Medical Hospital with minor injuries.
Due to the extent of injuries sustained, the 15-year-old passenger inside the Kia died at the scene. The coroner’s office later identified the deceased victim as Jaime Perez, a freshman at East High School.
Following preliminary duties, officers arrested the Kia driver, 18-year-old Leal for DUI and other related charges. Crews also took him to a nearby hospital with significant injuries.
The loved ones of Perez set up a GoFundMe page to help with costs during this devastating time.
