43-Year-Old Driver Arrested after a Deadly DUI Accident Leaves Passenger Dead near Deer Springs Road

ESCONDIDO, CA (January 13, 2023) – Early Sunday morning, police arrested Nicole Capatanos following a DUI crash that killed one person.

The incident happened on December 18th, just before 1:00 a.m., in the northbound lanes of Interstate 15, just south of Deer Springs Road.

According to authorities, a silver Ford Fusion, driven by 43-year-old Capatanos, was traveling northbound when it veered off the road for unknown reasons. The Ford then overturned several times and ended up on North Center City Parkway.

Emergency crews arrived to the site of the collision shortly after. Medics transported Capatanos and her passenger to a local hospital. There, medics pronounced the 45-year-old male passenger dead, due to the extent of his injuries. Meanwhile, Capatanos was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Following the collision, officers assessed Capatanos and determined her to be driving under the influence. She was arrested on DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter charges.
