Big-Rig Driver Fatally Struck in Speeding Street Race Crash near Broadway

OAKLAND, CA (December 7, 2022) – Early Saturday morning, a USPS driver was killed in a fiery hit-and-run collision on Interstate 880.

Police received dispatch calls in the area around 1:00 a.m., along the southbound lanes of I-880 near Broadway.

Per reports, a white Ford and a black sedan were speeding in a street race when one of the vehicles struck a USPS truck. Upon impact, the truck struck the center divider and rolled over on its left side, causing it to catch fire.

Meanwhile, police believe the driver of another vehicle picked up the suspect and fled the scene. 

Due to the extent of their condition, medics pronounced the USPS truck driver dead at the scene. Although, his identity remains undisclosed at this time. 

Crews closed off the surrounding area during cleanup and preliminary duties before the freeway lanes were later reopened around 8:00 a.m.  

Investigators say most of the packages that were on the truck remained unharmed. Oakland Officials are still working to determine the identity of the suspect.
