Toddler Pronounced Dead after Pedestrian Accident along Adams Street

BAKERSFIELD, CA (December 7, 2022) – Thanksgiving morning, Adela Catalina Hurtado was fatally struck by a vehicle on Adams Street.

Officers responded to a residence around 10:00 a.m., at the 500 block of Adams Street.

Upon arrival, officers learned that 18-year-old Israel Saldana slowly backed up a Ford Mustang and accidentally struck the toddler. Officers say Saldana failed to see the child before he started backing up.

Despite life-saving efforts, the child was later pronounced dead at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital. The Kern County coroner’s office identified the toddler as 20-month-old Adela Catalina Hurtado.

At this time, Bakersfield Officials continue to investigate the fatal accident.
