Jesus Castro Fatally Injured in Speeding Accident on University Avenue [East Palo Alto, CA]

Driver Pronounced Dead after Crashing into Tree on Cooley Avenue

EAST PALO ALTO, CA (June 24, 2022) – Monday night, Jesus Castro was pronounced dead after a speeding accident on University Avenue.

The incident occurred around 8:00 p.m., near the intersection of University and Cooley Avenue. Dispatchers responded to the scene shortly after.

According to reports, 29-year-old Castro was speeding and attempted to swerve around another vehicle and struck the curb. Upon impact, his vehicle spun around and struck a tree before splitting in half.

The front of the vehicle landed on its side against in the median. Meanwhile, the rear portion of the car sheared off into the eastbound lane.  Shattered glass and wreckage were scattered across the roadway and into the driveway of a nearby strip mall.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced 29-year-old Jesus Alejandro Belmonte Castro, of East Palo Alto dead at the scene.

Officers have not released a description of the involved vehicle at this time. At this time, an active investigation into the crash is underway.
