Hit-and-Run Traffic Collision on Cottonwood Avenue; One Dead, One Injured

HESPERIA, CA (June 20, 2022) – Saturday, Emily Castaneda was killed in a traffic collision on Cottonwood Avenue, north of Sycamore Street.

On June 12th, at 4:00 a.m., a 2019 Chevrolet Trax driven by Katrina Hernandez struck Castaneda as she was being helped off the roadway by an unidentified man.

As a result, the man suffered injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital while 29-year-old Castaneda was pronounced dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, Hernandez was taken into custody on June 16th and is being charged with hit-and-run causing injury/death.

Furthermore, both directions of the roadway were temporarily shutdown to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties.

No additional information has been released to the public at this time, however, an active investigation is currently underway.
