Woman Killed in Wrong-Way Collision near Highway 24 [Oakland, CA]

Four Injured in Wrong-Way Accident on Shattuck Avenue

OAKLAND, CA (May 27, 2022) – Early Saturday morning, a woman was pronounced dead after a wrong-way collision on Highway 24.

The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m., on the eastbound lanes of the freeway. Dispatchers arrived to the scene near Shattuck Avenue shortly after.

For reasons unknown, the driver of a Mercedes traveled west on the eastbound side of Shattuck Avenue. As a result, the Mercedes collided into a sedan occupied by five people.

Due to the impact of the collision, the female passenger of the sedan succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Meanwhile, paramedics transported the remaining four to a hospital for major injuries along with the suspect.

Upon the arrival, officers witnessed the Mercedes driver running on foot. Authorities then took the suspect into custody with assistance from the K-9 unit.

Following preliminary investigations, Oakland Officials suspect that alcohol was a factor.
