Man Killed in Fatal Pedestrian Accident on West Elk Grove Avenue
ELK GROVE, CA (April 5, 2022) – Tuesday evening, a male pedestrian was fatally struck in a hit-and-run crash on Shorelake Drive.
Dispatchers received multiple reports around 8:35 p.m., about a man lying on the street with life-threatening injuries.
Investigators say the driver of a westbound vehicle struck the pedestrian, and fled the scene on West Elk Grove Avenue. In addition, the pedestrian was walking outside of a marked crosswalk at the time.
Due to the extent of his condition, the 53-year-old male victim succumbed to his injuries. Although, authorities have not yet released his identity.
A few hours after the incident, the driver of the suspect vehicle arrived at the Elk Grove Police Department. The driver, a 17-year-old boy, was arrested and booked on charges of vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run resulting in death, and hit-and-run resulting in injury.
Following preliminary investigations, crews considered speed as a factor, although alcohol and drugs were not. Meanwhile, officials closed both directions on Elk Grove Avenue between Four Winds and East Taron.
