Gezane Izreal Cabanillas-Lape Arrested after T-Bone Collision on Windsor Street

MESA, AZ (March 28, 2022) – Tuesday afternoon, Ronald Hettich and Irma Hettich were killed in a speeding crash on Main Street.

Emergency crews responded to the scene around 5:30 p.m., near the intersection of Windsor and Main Street.

According to reports, the t-bone collision involved a 2009 Chrysler 300C and a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The Pacifica, driven by Irma, was traveling north on Windsor crossing through the Main Street intersection.

There, the passenger side of Irma’s vehicle was hit by another Chrysler traveling at speeds in excess of 100 mph. Gezane Izreal Cabanillas-Lape was driving the speeding vehicle.

Due to the extent of her condition, medics transported 80-year-old Irma to a hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. Meanwhile, crews pronounced her husband, 82-year-old Ronald dead at the scene.

Moreover, Cabanillas-Lape sustained non-life-threatening injuries. However, paramedics took his passenger, a 21-year-old female, to a hospital with serious injuries.

Officers issued an arrest warrant for Cabanillas-Lape. Police said Cabanilla-Lape did not show signs of impairment upon evaluation. Although, crews later booked him into the Mesa City Holding Facility with two counts of second-degree murder and one count of aggravated assault.

At this time, an active investigation is still ongoing.
