6 Airlifted Helicopter Crash in Angeles National Forest [Azusa, CA]

Six Hospitalized after Sheriff Helicopter Collision near Highway 39

AZUSA, CA (March 24, 2022) – Late Saturday afternoon, a helicopter crash in Angeles National Forest left at least six people injured.

According to authorities, the incident happened around 4:58 p.m., near San Gabriel Reservoir. Emergency crews arrived to the scene near Highway 39 and East Fork Road.

The San Dimas station received reports that an Air Rescue 5 helicopter went down in the area. Medical personnel arrived and airlifted 6 occupants to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center for treatment of various injuries.

According to officials, the passengers were later described as the pilot and co-pilot, two paramedics, one crew chief and a doctor from UCLA.  One sustained critical injuries, two with moderate injuries and another two with minor injuries.

Eventually, police reported that the L.A. County sheriff’s helicopter went down after responding to a vehicle crash in the nearby San Gabriel Canyon.

At this time, Los Angeles Officials continue to investigate the helicopter crash.
