16-Year-Old Victim Killed in Auto Collision near Indian School Road
PHOENIX, AZ (March 17, 2022) – Sunday, a collision on 36th Street took the life of Tomas Villaverde, authorities said.
The auto accident happened around 9:30 p.m., near the intersection of 36th Street and Indian School Road.
Authorities said a Ford Mustang with three juvenile occupants was speeding on Indian School Road. For reasons still under investigation, the Mustang suddenly collided with a Honda Accord that was attempting to turn left onto 36th Street.
The impact of the collision pushed the Honda into a traffic signal pole. Eventually, two of the three teens in the Mustang were ejected from the vehicle onto the road.
Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced one occupant dead at the scene. Police later identified the deceased victim as 16-year-old as Villaverde.
Meanwhile, the 17-year-old driver of the Mustang, and a 16-year-old passenger sustained non-serious injuries.
Moreover, the 50-year-old male driver of the Honda suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. According to the police, the Honda driver showed signs of alcohol impairment.
The initial result of the investigation said that speed on behalf of the teen driver was a contributing factor. However, charges will be decided after the investigation is completed.
