27-Year-Old Motorcyclist Killed in Head-On Collision near Main Street

CALAVERAS COUNTY, CA (March 10, 2022) – Sunday evening, Spencer Roark died in a head-on crash after a high-speed chase on State Route 4.

According to California Highway Patrol, the pursuit started around 6:25 p.m., on March 6. Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after.

At the time, a patrolling officer in the Murphys area spotted 27-year-old Roark running a stop sign on his 2021 Harley-Davidson, triggering the chase on the west side of the highway.

According to the officer, Roark was speeding down the freeway when he crossed over double yellow lines into the eastbound lane. He then crashed head-on into a 2014 Audi that was driven by 49-year-old Deana Capurro.

Due to the impact, Roark was ejected from his motorcycle onto the shoulder of the road. Medics arrived and attempted life-saving efforts to the severely injured motorcyclist.

However, medical personnel later pronounced Roark, of Escalon, dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, medics transported a passenger in the Audi to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries while Capurro also suffered minor injuries but declined transportation.

Police have yet to determine if drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.
